The Oba of Benin, Omo n’Oba Erediauwa Akpolokpolo I, is dead. He died on Friday afternoon. His death was announced few minutes ago by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe. The late monarch has been battling an unknown illness since last year.

The federal government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, the 2nd of May a public holiday for all workers. This is to commemorate the 2016 workers day celebration which hold every May 1st. An announcement was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau. He commended nigerian workers for their resilience and commitment to the Change mantra of President Muhammadu Buhari. The minister wished all Nigerian workers, peaceful celebrations.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation said 1,194 trucks of petrol were loaded nationwide on Tuesday. This is contained in the corporation’s Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily supply nationwide schedule released in Abuja. According to the statement, twenty one import vessels laden with a total volume of 844.1 million litres have been confirmed to arrive in the month of April for NNPC. It added that the NNPC and marketers vessels were currently discharging at various depots and jetties nationwide. The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, says the Federal Government plans to begins payment of staff salaries by the 25th of every month, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari. Idris, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, said ``this is going to be given a test, I believe, by this month’’. The AGF also said that the government was working on a new arrangement, which, if approved, would ensure payment of the salaries before the monthly meeting of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC). According to him, usually, salaries are paid after the FAAC meeting, where revenue accruing to the federation’s account are shared between the federal, state and local governments. ``There is a standing instruction of Mr President to pay salary on or before 24 or 25 of every month and we will try as much as possible to comply and to abide by that. ``We are taking a step further to make a provision

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has said the economy would experience a boom by the end of 2018 just as he hinted of a hike in interest rate by May this year at the monetary policy committee (MPC) of the apex bank following the inflation rate that has galloped to 12.4 per cent from 11.8 per cent. Emefiele, who made this prediction yesterday at the closing press briefing by the Nigerian delegation, noted that the economy was currently going through a structural reforms and now attracting a series of investments that would translate to a major recovery in about two years. Nigeria has restarted the Port Harcourt refinery, which has a capacity of 210,000 barrels a day, a spokesman for state oil firm NNPC said on Wednesday, as the OPEC member seeks to end fuel shortages. “It is not in full capacity. Production is between three and five million litres daily,” spokesman Garba Deen Muhammad said. Work resumed last week. Despite being Africa’s largest crude exporter, Nigeria imports almost all of its gasoline. Dollar shortages and the shutdown of its refineries have for weeks left motorists queuing for petrol across the West African nation. NNPC said this month it planned to restart its 110,000-barrel-per-day refinery in the northern city of Kaduna by mid-April. Nigeria has a refining capacity of 445,000 barrels per day from three refinery companies but they have been mostly shut due to years of neglect and corruption.
