A new auction record was set for the Nigerian-born artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby in New York last week when “Drown” soared to sell for $1,092,500, over three times the high-estimate ($200,000-$300,000), in Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Sale.No fewer than 11 bidders competed for the work that was eventually sold to an anonymous buyer on the telephone. This was the second time in less than two months that the auction record for Njideka Akunyili Crosby had been broken at Sotheby’s. The previous auction record for the artist was $93,750, set by her “Untitled” work from 2011 at Sotheby’sNew York in September 2016.

Popular DJ Humility, dropped the beautiful attribute in his name when he joined other passengers to hold staffs of Arik Air hostage over their delayed flight. The disc jockey was left strandedafter booking for a 2pm flight through Arik Air from Kaduna to Lagos on Sunday.He shared a footage of the staffs that were all forced behind their counter by passengers and wrote; “Arik air is seriously messed up!! We have been in the airport since 1pm, our flight was meant to takeoff by 2pm from Kaduna to Lagos…. This is almost 9pm we are still here and this crazy officials ain’t showing any concern leaving everyone stranded here.. They do this because they always get away with it but tonightthat shitss gonna stop!!!!! WE ARE HUMANS!!!”,The flight eventually left by 12:52am and the Dj shared another video where he vent his anger for missing out on business due to his delayed trip. 33 States Cant Pay Salaries -BudgitNG

BudgIT , a data-simplifying civic organisation has said 33, out of the 36states of the Federation, are unable to fulfill recurrent obligations. In 2015, BudgIT said only 19 states were in that situation. Before President Muhammad Buhari’s administration officially declared Nigeria in a recession, few months ago, 17 states were reportedly able to meet up with recurrent needs, but, according to BudgIT’s report, only three states can now meet recurrent obligations. A report released by the organisation titled ‘State of States’ showed that only Lagos, Rivers and Enugu are the states that can fulfill obligations to its workers. Akwa Ibom reportedly placed last on the table of ability to meet monthly recurrent expenditure commitments followed by Bayelsa, Oyo and Osun, said BudgIT. Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari might increase the minimum wage of Nigerian workers as the Federal Government delegation will meet with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) over deliberation on the issue.
