Seeing Children through the Tech World

Some children have become addicted to technological devices including computers, video games, internet, and social networking. Therefore, it is the sole responsibility of parents to ensure that they are knowledgeable on the potential negative aspects of technology use, as well as how it can be used in a responsible manner.  Therefore, technology should aid proper parenting if parents gets involved in how their children are using technology positively and productively. 

However, it is nearly impracticable for parents to control everything that their children are exposed to through technological use. However, it is recommended to install parental control programs and filter software on children’s computers and other devices. Nonetheless, this is not a foolproof solution to controlling all that children are exposed to, since children can access the internet from anywhere using smart phones, laptops, and tablets. Therefore, parents cannot monitor on every online action their children are engaged in.  All in all parents should consider monitoring their children’s activities online as an ongoing process. 

Parents need to talk to their children on pertinent issues concerning sharing information online, and the need to be clear on the kind of information that they can share.  Proper parenting requires having occasional talks with children concerning the use of technology. The talks should include using technology in the classroom, which will help you as a parent to understand deeper into today’s learning environment. It is important to note that, children could be more exited by certain aspects of technology, and would be happier to share these aspects with their parents, which enables a give and take scenario between children and their parents. 

Furthermore, children can also relay certain concerns on how technology is used in the classroom, which is an important source of information for parents to be aware and take appropriate action. Therefore, time with children provides an opportunity for the children to be the ‘teacher’ who shares their knowledge with you, which provides a proper parenting ground.

Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State said on Friday that the government, Bank of Industry, business tycoon Aliko Dangote and some states will acquire the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Ltd (PAN). El-Rufa’i who said this during the state’s special day at the ongoing 37th Kaduna International Trade Fair, named the other states as Katsina, Kebbi and Jigawa. Senate moves to enforce patronage of local goods

THE Senate, Wednesday adopted a motion seeking the amendment of the Procurement Act to compel all government agencies and institutions to give maximum priority to patronising locally made products. Adopting a two prayer motion moved by Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) titled “Need For Patronisation of Made-in-Nigeria Goods,” the Senate urged the Federal Government to initiate and implement the first option policy on purchase of locally manufactured goods for any government procurement in all arms of government and every public funded organisation. It also urged both the National Assembly to amend the Procurement Act to ensure that as a matter of law, agencies of government and government funded institutions adopt ‘the made-in-Nigeria’ goods first option policy and where consideration is first given to the local industry before any other.
