State Of Osun Speaker Hon Najeem Saleem Canvasses Empowerment For Women

Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has canvassed support for empowerment of women in the state, premising his advocacy on challenges they are experiencing both at home and in the society daily.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butikakuro, Speaker Salaam said statistics at his disposal revealed that lack of empowerment has forced larger percentage of women to be enduring domestic violence and intolerable abuses which in some cases had resulted to untimely death or permanent infirmity.
He then called on the rich and the privileged class to throw up more humanitarian foundations and groups that would champion the cause of women, saying that would go a long way to complement the action plan of government on women affair.
Speaker Salaam also asked women empowerment advocacy groups in the state to interact with the standing committee of the House on women affairs with a view to discussing challenges facing our women coupled with the legislation that could protect them against violence.
He asserted that the parliament under his watch deliberately passed the Child right law in order to save our children from being misused or exposed to child labour; hinting that the law had taken off half of the burden of women; expressing the readiness of the assembly to do more for women as long as it would not break the chord of acceptable norm in the cultural milieu.
