Toward Powering Nigeria via Kogi State by Ettu Mohammed

If only the Federal Government of Nigeria can tap into Kogi's massive mineral resources and rescue Nigeria from darkness and provide an alternative revenue generation with the dwindling oil price.
Kogi has remained stranded at Lokoja because govt never thought about her.
If you don't know
Kogi State has enough coal deposit (some 250million metric tons) to supply Nigeria electricity for at least 300 years and enough limestone to supply the country cement (at, say 50milion metric tons pa) for at least a hundred years.
The Environmental impact assessment was done in 2006, the coal deposit is within the confines of river Niger.
A confined system was recommended that will settle and filter the solid while the clean water flow back to River Niger.
A coal-fired power plant was designed which could be up to 15,000 MW this will
supply steady base electricity while other plants can make up the 50,000 MW based on our country's projected need as at 2006.
The feasibility studies, the environmental impact assessment, the design of the power plant involved experts from USA, Canada, Australia, China and many other countries.
The project was funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). Interestingly, Nigerian govt carpet the report and have spent more than sixth times the cost of implementing that report on mantra of failed power plants, despite the humongous money spent Nigeria does not have electricity.
It's now brainer they Nigeria is still below 5000MW despite all we have spent on power.
What would USTDA and the international community be thinking about Nigeria after investing so much money to help Nigeria but Nigeria is not helping herself.
Kogi has most minerals known to mankind, including Iron Ore, Niobium (Tantallite), Manganese, Copper, etc.

We call on the federal ministry of power, works and housing minister led by BRF to revisit Kogi and find a lasting solution to Nigeria being stranded in Lokoja.
