OSUN YESSO: World Bank Again Applauds Osun

The World Bank has again applauded the State of Osun for maintaining its leading position in the Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO)‎ among the participating states in Nigeria

The International Financial Institution stated this through Professors Sulaiman Yusuf and Wale Oni at the third phase of the Community Based Targeting (CBT) Team Validation Exercise for Community Development Officers (CDOs) and their Assistants who willbe working in the selected communities within the new set of Local Government Areas selected.The duo maintained that, YESSO came on board to increase access of the poor to youth employment opportunities, social services and tostrengthen safety net systems in participating states.In his remarks at the event, the Coordinator, State Operation Coordinating Unit (SOCU), Osun YESSO‎, Mr. Olufemi Ifaturoti commended the World Bank team for their efforts which he said were instrumental to the coming on boardof YESSO in Osun.Mr. Ifaturoti also eulogized the Federal Operation Coordinating Unit Team (FOCU), Local Government Officials and his SOCU team for their steadfastness which has seen the support operation waxing stronger and stronger.Also speaking at the event on behalfof the Federal Operation Coordinating Unit (FOCU), Mr. Sulaiman Haruna‎ maintained that, the World Bank/FOCU team was in Osun to ensure that the third round of the Community Based Targeting (CBT) exercise turns out very successful.The new set of Local Government Areas selected for the third round ofthe Community Based Targeting(CBT) Exercise‎ are Ife East in addition with the Area Office,Iwo, Ayedaade, Atakumosa West, Boripe and Odo-Otin.Among those present at the event were; Alexander Ajiduku from the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office(NASSCO),‎ Abuja, Bada Oluwaseyi from FOCU, Abuja, Abdulsalam A.O also from FOCU in Abuja and  Mr. J.O Akande who is the Coordinating Director of the State Planning Commission (SPC).

Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State said on Friday that the government, Bank of Industry, business tycoon Aliko Dangote and some states will acquire the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Ltd (PAN). The minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu yesterday said he will meet with the Senate Committee on Communications today as well as face the House of Reps counterparts on Thursday to explain his role in the N50 billion payment paid by MTN and the withdrawal of court case against the government. Shittu who fielded question to technology journalists in Lagos yesterday during a working visit to three telecommunications operating companies, MainOne, MTN and Globacom said the request of the lawmakers was in order. Senate moves to enforce patronage of local goods

THE Senate, Wednesday adopted a motion seeking the amendment of the Procurement Act to compel all government agencies and institutions to give maximum priority to patronising locally made products. Adopting a two prayer motion moved by Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) titled “Need For Patronisation of Made-in-Nigeria Goods,” the Senate urged the Federal Government to initiate and implement the first option policy on purchase of locally manufactured goods for any government procurement in all arms of government and every public funded organisation. It also urged both the National Assembly to amend the Procurement Act to ensure that as a matter of law, agencies of government and government funded institutions adopt ‘the made-in-Nigeria’ goods first option policy and where consideration is first given to the local industry before any other.
