OAU PARLIAMENTARIAN CALL FOR THE SCRAPPING OF NANS

A member of the Parliament of Great Ife Students Union has call for the scrapping of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Moshood Olajide, the Parliamentarian representing Faculty of Social Sciences in OAU Students Union Representative has branded the leadership too corrupt and thuggery to lead Nigerian students. Moshood in his words said: NANS has outlived its purpose of establishment. It should be scrapped while the civil societies should stop identifying with them. He further question the leadership capacity of the current factions in NANS, The current factionalized leadership of the Association lack approximate sagacity and intellectual sophistry to delve in to ideological dynamism accompanying viciousness that characterize a multifarious geographical clan like Nigeria, Moshood said. NANS has over time been reportedly hijacked by politicians for selfish motives. In the wake of the 2015 Presidential election, NANS was under fierce criticism for donating one million naira for President Jonathan Re - Election bid before another faction in NANS inspired by Salam Oyejide gave a monetary sponsored award to Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim in few weeks to Ondo State Governorship election.

Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State said on Friday that the government, Bank of Industry, business tycoon Aliko Dangote and some states will acquire the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Ltd (PAN). El-Rufa’i who said this during the state’s special day at the ongoing 37th Kaduna International Trade Fair, named the other states as Katsina, Kebbi and Jigawa. He said a proposal to acquire the majority shares of the company had already been submitted to Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON). Senate moves to enforce patronage of local goods

THE Senate, Wednesday adopted a motion seeking the amendment of the Procurement Act to compel all government agencies and institutions to give maximum priority to patronising locally made products. Adopting a two prayer motion moved by Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) titled “Need For Patronisation of Made-in-Nigeria Goods,” the Senate urged the Federal Government to initiate and implement the first option policy on purchase of locally manufactured goods for any government procurement in all arms of government and every public funded organisation. It also urged both the National Assembly to amend the Procurement Act to ensure that as a matter of law, agencies of government and government funded institutions adopt ‘the made-in-Nigeria’ goods first option policy and where consideration is first given to the local industry before any other.
